Torbjörn Holm

Professor of Surgery, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden

Dr Torbjörn Holm went to medical school at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm and graduated in 1981. After his basic medical education and surgical training he was board certified surgeon in 1988. In October 1988 he was appointed as staff surgeon at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.

For the last twenty-five years, Dr Holm has focused on colorectal surgery with a special interest in colorectal cancer surgery, especially locally advanced and recurrent rectal cancer.

Dr Holm defended his thesis “Rectal Cancer – Aspects on Preoperative Radiation, Surgery and Local Recurrence” in 1996 and has continued his research in this field.

Presently, Dr Holm is Professor of Surgery at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
